CIECT

The Centre for Innovative Educational and Communication Technologies (CIECT) positions eLearning discourse within a global perspective; as well as explores the application of eLearning. In particular, different and innovative teaching and learning approaches; the impact of educational technology on prevailing communities of practice; sound teaching practices; and the sharing of online courses. Moreover, how students are impacted by flexible eLearning approaches and integrated curriculum design.

CIECT specifically focusses on issues related to the adoption of:
*educational technologies to enhance teaching-and-learning practices,
*education management,
*research, and
*administration.

​​Established in 1993, the School of Public Health (SOPH) of the University of Western Cape is a WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Human Resource for Health Development, hosts the SARChi chair in Health Systems, Complexity and Social Change and houses the UWC Centre for Research in HIV and AIDS (CRHA).  The SOPH's vision is the optimal health of populations in developing countries, particularly Africa, living in healthy and sustainable environments with access to appropriate, high quality, comprehensive and equitable health systems, based on a human rights approach. The purpose of the School is to contribute to developing policy makers and implementers who are knowledgeable and skilled in the principles and practice of public health, whose practice is based on research, influenced by informed and active communities, and implemented with a commitment to equity, social justice and human dignity. SAQA

The South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) is a juristic person - that is an entity given a legal personality by the law. The South African Qualifications Authority Board is a body of 12 members appointed by the Minister of Higher Education and Training.

Teaching and Learning Directorate

The Directorate of Teaching and Learning was set up explicitly to create and implement a Strategic Plan on Teaching and Learning for the University of the Western Cape (UWC) from 2010-2014.  As the Director of Teaching and Learning at UWC, I worked collaboratively with Deputy Deans of Teaching and Learning and Teaching and Learning Specialists from faculties to develop a Strategic Plan for Teaching and Learning and a charter of Graduate Attributes.  These documents were then ratified by Senate and Council, and were then translated into an Implementation Plan on Teaching and Learning, which was also then ratified by Senate and Council.
